Mews House, Marylebone, London
This project is a façade retention scheme with a complete reconfiguration of internal spaces and mansard extension, while retaining the original character of the mews house in this conservation area of the borough of Westminster. The brief was to work within the restricted mansard height, approved under a separate planning submission, and over three floors include; two bedrooms, two bathrooms, ground floor living / kitchen / dining and closet WC with a feature timber staircase to tie the spaces together.
The interior design palette is sensitive to the character of the existing house while working within a modest footprint. Acoustic considerations were paramount in the detailing, a box within a box approach was used to eliminate the noise caused by the London Underground transferring through the structure.
The client chose to self-manage the construction due to the modest budget. The project proved as a successful approach in extending the life of buildings through surgical transformations.
